For the Shenzhen Shekou Sea World Culture and Arts Center, Relicase supplied the display case, enhanced display effect and received high praise from the museum.

In 2014, the V&A began a partnership with China Merchants Shekou to help them in their ambition to establish the first major museum in China devoted to design. Located in Shekou, at the western edge of Shenzhen, Design Society is a cultural hub taking its name from the fact that design is both a noun and a verb, and has the ambition to become a place that inspires action, stimulating the growing design scene in Southern China.

Sea World Culture and Arts Center is a waterfront situated multi-use culture and arts center within the greater Sea World development in Shekou, China. The project is a joint venture between the state owned China Merchants Group and Great Britain’s Victoria and Albert Museum. Completed in 2017 the structure is built in two parts. The first part the “sculptural podium” contains the museum and retail stores and the second made up of “three cantilevered volumes” houses a theater, a restaurant and a “multi purpose hall”.

Jiangsu Art Museum

Jiangsu art museum located in the cultural center of Nanjing, Jiangsu, China. It is one of the most important exhibition buildings in southeast China. It was founded in 1936, during the Nanjing decade, was the first national art museum in China’s modern history. In September 1960, it was renamed as Jiangsu Provincial Art Museum. Since then, it has been attaching great importance in organizing exhibition in fine arts, collecting great art works, and setting up tasks in artistic composition, research and cultural exchanges with foreign countries, presenting traditional and contemporary art pieces of China.

The museum has an area of​​ 4,700 square meters. The main building of the museum has four stories with seven exhibition halls of different sizes. The museum collects more than 10,000 art works,most of which are modern and contemporary works from China and the world, including Chinese ancient paintings, Chinese calligraphy, new style prints, watercolor paintings and art works from foreign countries.

Han Tianheng Art Museum located on No. 70, Bole Road, Jiading District, covering more than 14,000 square meters. The Museum features the dual function of museum and gallery. The Museum aims at intergrating dissemination, research, education and entertainment, and helps to promote and enhance the services for the general public’s growing cultural needs. Shanghai Natural History Museum

For the Shanghai Natural History Museum, Relicase’s major challenge is the irregular museum showcases, such as irregular polygonal and circular arc display cases. They require extremely high machining accuracy on sheet metals, glass, aluminum profile frames among others. Furthermore, the design of the opening structure must be clever and well-thought through to secure the motion path of irregular glass.

The Shanghai Natural History Museum, a branch of the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum, was our first project with a massive natural history museum. Compared to relics and heritage museums, natural history museums require display cases which are extremely huge or of different shapes with an extra-high load carrying capacity. This is because the dimensions of exhibits may differ from very small, in the case of butterfly specimens to ultra-big like megafauna specimens or skeletal fossils; or the weights of exhibits may differ from light as with feather or fur specimens to heavy as with large-scale geological specimens. Due to the presence of a great number of colour-rich specimen exhibits, restoring their original colours is necessary when introducing an illumination system. Besides, beautiful colours are needed to create an amazing display atmosphere and the colours and materials of case surfaces must be selected carefully before a final decision is made. For cases with a high probability of interaction with viewers, nterrelated structures must be calculated accurately on these display cases for purpose of installation of multimedia devices.

Shenzhen Stock Exchange Archives Centre

Shenzhen Stock Exchange (SZSE) Archives Centre, which mainly houses calligraphy and painting exhibits, was designed for exchange exhibitions, so the display cases deployed in it are specifically constructed for the display and protection of paper exhibits.

We use SCHOTT AMIRAN anti-reflection glass from Germany to reduce the visual impact caused by glaring lights and simultaneously to restore the true colors of paintings. ERCO LED track wall-washers are also used for a better performance. A lighting control module is integrated into the DALI control system of the whole showroom to allow for convenience and improved efficiency.

The MiniClima humidity-constant system allows for the unified control of all display cases in the showroom. This system was installed in an equipment room a distance from the showroom to minimize distractions caused by work noise and to facilitate the daily management & maintenance of equipment.

A newly updated TCFA electronic access system and electronic lifting system have been applied in all cases.

Many difficulties were overcome during installation. For instance, the following problems were successfully addressed: the hoisting of 3800*1750mm glass from outside the building’s curtain wall to the 8th floor, where the showroom does not have any passageway; the bearing capacity of the raised flooring in the showroom failed to secure the installation of display cases; the humidity-constant system’s pipeline from the equipment room to the showroom was blocked by many building structures, etc.
