The museum is located at Tanmen Township in Qionghai City, south China’s Hainan Province, on the east coast of the island province of Hainan. It will have exhibitions on history, culture, ecosystems of the sea, as well as antiques found from the coastal provinces and under the sea, highlighting China’s sovereignty over the South China Sea and the protection of cultural heritage. The museum is a key base for exhibiting the history and culture of the South China Sea. It also serves to promote exchanges and cooperation among countries along the maritime Silk Road.

The Museum has the building covers an area of 70593 square meters, where you can see nearby many ancient artifacts-porcelain, jewelry, models ships and much more. It collects more than 70,000 artworks, including historical export cultural relics, Nanhai biological specimens, Hainan historical relics, and historical ship models.
